Visitors in Zanzibar can board daily scheduled dhow trips to Bawe subject to tide of the day and weather conditions. This interesting excursion is suitable for travellers who would like to enjoy a discovery Indian Ocean experience with snorkeling, swimming and lunch taken on a sandbank. This half day tour is conducted between 9:30am – 3:30pm and it is a great choice for those who would like to enjoy some relaxation with some adventure and rejuvenation.
Guests onboard the dhow sail towards the Bawe Island where you can enjoy some stunning snorkeling with a guide. There is a beautiful array of colored corals and tropical fish around the small island of Bawe to see and/or capture some spectacular underwater photography. Thereafter, guests get back onboard and continue to sail to a sandbank where brilliant birdlife exists.
Guests enjoy lunch meals in a seemingly uninhabited and quiet sandbank in the ocean which is coloured by varied birdlife flying across the area. It’s common to sight crabs scurrying across the golden sands. After lunch guests can enjoy a relaxed busking moment on the sandbank while listening to the whistling birds around them and the soft sounds of the lapping turquoise ocean waves against the shore. For those who would like to enjoy more underwater life around the sandbank they can do so and for those who would like to listen to the knowledgeable guides share stories as well as their knowledge about the ecology can do so in a relaxed yet enchanting atmosphere.
After a relaxed period of soaking up the sun at the sandbank, the sail back to Stone Town will begin and return back to the shoreline or waterfront area around Stone Town.
